Volunteer description: Junior Achievement (JA), delivered by the Ottawa Network for Education, is looking for volunteers to help create tomorrow’s leaders. We are looking for volunteers with real world experience to share with students while facilitating hands-on and interactive learning experiences. The JA Company program is targeted to high school students and runs for 15 weeks, either integrated into a business class (during school hours) or after-school starting the week of September 21 2015 until the week of January 11, 2016. Each JA Company program is supported by a team of 3-4 volunteers to allow for flexibility in scheduling visits as not all volunteers must attend each week.

JA is looking for volunteers to run JA Company program in the following schools:

After-School Programs
▪ These programs will be run once a week immediately after school hours for 2.5-3 hours weekly.
▪ Sacred Heart (Stittsville)
▪ John McCrae (Barrhaven)
▪ Earl of March (Kanata)
▪ Glebe Collegiate ( Downtown)

In-School Programs
These programs are run during class time and integrated into the curriculum. They are run during school hours based on each school schedule. Volunteers visit the class once a week, occasionally twice per week based on program content.
▪ Mother Teresa (Barrhaven)
▪ Longfields Davidson Heights (Barrhaven)
▪ Garneau (Orleans – French)

Volunteers will coach/mentor students to run their own business and experience the excitement and future career potential in entrepreneurship. The goal is to encourage the high school students to recognize the value of responsible business practices and increase their awareness of the skills and resources required to operate a business. Volunteers must have basic presentation skills and a good understanding of business management concepts. Experience in small business and French would be considered an asset, but not mandatory.
