Mission:

Helping With Furniture (HWF) is an award-winning registered charity that provides gently-used furniture and household goods to families and individuals in distress, to help them start new lives in Ottawa. These include refugees, recent immigrants, people relocating from shelters or leaving abusive situations, and people struggling with mental illness or at risk of homelessness. Since 2005, HWF has furnished more than 1760 homes. Because HWF is run entirely by volunteers, everything we do for the people we serve is free.

Volunteer Position Description:

• Enter monthly transactions into QuickBooks and reconcile bank account (2 hours a month)
• Assist the treasurer with the preparation of reports out of QuickBooks such as quarterly financial statements review (2 hours per quarter)
• Keep track of donor information throughout the year and prepare charitable receipts (5 hours once a year)
• Complete the appropriate CRA and Industry Canada filings prior to June 30 following fiscal year end (5-10 hours once a year)
• Assist with the annual Gala – attending the Gala and helping with the ticket sales, silent auction items, and subsequent reconciliation of gala revenues (10 hours in April)
• Provide financial details to fundraising committee as needed for grant proposals (as needed run a report of out QB)
• Assist treasurer with research and documentation of accounting and other charity related questions as they arise
• Total Annual commitment – approximately 50 hours
