School-Life Blend: Finding Balance
Posted on Friday, December 13th, 2019
Happy new year! Can you believe it is already 2020? The start of another year and the start of another semester – and we are especially excited about this one!
You may have heard of the phrase “work-life balance” or “school-life balance”, but this term is a little dated now. With the accessibility of laptops, availability of wifi, the Brightspace App, and emails coming into our phones, the various facets of our lives have never been more integrated. Introducing the updated phrase: “school-life blend”. Wondering what’s available on campus to enhance your school-life blend? Student Support Services has got your back!
Spiritual Centre
Sometimes we need some time to quiet the noise and relax. The Spiritual Centre (Room E211) is the perfect place to do just that. Their Multi-Purpose Room is a shared space for group prayer and meditation, yoga, religious services, and workshops. They also have a closed-door meeting room for discussions, meetings, prayer, or meditation, and their Welcome Area is an open, shared space with comfy seating for reading and relaxing.
Volunteer Centre
The AC Hub Volunteer Centre (Room E203) provides awesome opportunities to help our community by giving back and to meet like-minded people and experience new things (check out our volunteer blog post on the (Unexpected) Benefits of Volunteering). Making new connections, whether personal or professional, is truly a key part of the college experience. Volunteering can open your eyes to causes you didn’t even know you were passionate about, and allow you to meet really cool people you may not have otherwise met.
AC Hub On- and Off-Campus Events
The AC Hub (2nd floor, Student Commons) hosts FREE events every month! Make sure to keep an eye on the Events Calendar, we’re adding things all the time! While some events are drop-in, others require a $20 deposit and student card to reserve a spot. Upcoming events in January include Mental Health 360°: Pancakes, Winter Tubing, and Wind Down Friday: Get Zen with Live Music ft. TJ Morrison.
