Mission:

The Ottawa Paw Pantry provides temporary food assistance to qualifying low-income owners who are currently unable to afford food for their pets and may be forced to give up their pets without food assistance.

Volunteer Position Description:

The Ottawa Paw Pantry is looking for a well-organized and detail-oriented person to fill its Donation Coordinator role. This person will facilitate the pick-up and drop-off of donations by working with a group of volunteer drivers. This role is critical to the success of our organization as we are a 100% donation run charity.

This volunteer is responsible for yielding food pickup requests from individuals, existing drop-off locations, and other pet stores/veterinary clinics. Once a pick-up has been identified, you will work with our volunteer driver team to schedule a timely pick-up through our Facebook group and/or by contacting our drivers directly.

Responsibilities:
Facilitate logistics related to pick up and drop off of donations with donors and driver(s)
Ensure the donations are brought to the storage unit for proper storage and distribution
Exercise discretion regarding acceptance of donated goods based on “Food Acceptance Policy”
Assist with driver coordinating for special events that promote food donations, such as the Bowlful of Heart Campaign
Identify and track donations by location

Please note: The nature of this work can sometimes be somewhat unpredictable, flexibility to work some evenings and weekends is appreciated.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong time management skills
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Ability to work well independently
  • Working knowledge of a smartphone and Google Docs preferred
