Volunteer Position Description:
Citizen Advocacy Ottawa is a local registered charity celebrating our 45th anniversary this year. We support those living with a disability across age and disability spectrum.
Our annual fundraising event, Evening in the Maritimes, is one of the premier galas in Ottawa. Over the last 25 years, we have raised over 3.3 million dollars to support our programming. In 2019, over 600 guests came to enjoy an amazing east coast themed ‘kitchen party’ and helped us raise $142,000 which helps us deliver our programs.
We are looking for an event management student who seeks experience in the fundraising side of event management and wants to have first-hand experience planning a gala for over 600 people at the Casino Lac-Leamy, one of Ottawa’s premier venues.
This would involve a number of tasks which would be ideal for a driven and ambitious student.
Principal responsibilities would include:
- Identifying potential donors locally, provincially, nationally and internationally.
- Corresponding with companies, private donors and organizations to procure live and silent auction items.
- Ensuring logistical support for those interested in donating items.
- Effectively communicating Citizen Advocacy messaging while interacting with the public.
Secondary responsibilities/mentorship opportunities based on student interest:
- Shadowing/ being involved in developing and delivering media strategy
- Shadowing/ being involved in venue logistics and third party coordination
- Shadowing/ being involved in Committee minutes/ action plan document creation
- Shadowing/ being involved in Registration of over 600 guests
- Being exposed to significant networking opportunities
- Shadowing the event manager on the event day
- Other duties based on students areas of interest and desire for development
We are searching for a student (potentially two) who would be able to support us for a full year commitment or just one term, with a minimum commitment of 5 hours a week.
Volunteer Requirements:
- Police record check
- Minimum 19 years of age
