Mission:

Today, 11 million Canadians live with diabetes or pre-diabetes. Current growth rates mean that young people at age 20 face a 1 in 2 lifetime risk of developing the condition. To stem the tide of this epidemic, Diabetes Canada is raising its sights to deliver impact at a population level by advocating for healthy public policy, driving exceptional diabetes care, promoting research towards a cure, and enhancing our digital delivery consistent with the needs of those we serve today and the desires of our donors.

Volunteer Position Description:

  • Help to coordinate fundraising events through customer service, participant recruitment, Swag procurement and event execution
  • Mail merges, envelope stuffing, filing, inventory, meeting minutes, photocopying, and other clerical tasks as they arise etc
  • Proof-read and edit website content update, and other external communication materials
  • Research and seek-out opportunities to enhance and/or reduce costs of events
  • Assist with the preparation of documents such as PowerPoint presentations, articles, information sheets and more
  • Online research and data collection
  • Assist with coordinating volunteers, guest lists, food service arrangements, menu planning, decorative and table set up, name tags and tear down
  • Assist with administration and execution of Diabetes Canada’s Signature Events and Expos, as well as third-party community events
  • Attend and assist third-party community events as a Diabetes Canada representative
  • Assist with database management including data entry, merging of records, etc.
  • Assist with development of plans, critical paths, meeting minutes, report updates, budgets, stewardship/recognition, constituent communications, rentals, donation processing, etc.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Full Driver’s licence an asset
  • Friendly and professional demeanor, donor-orientated attitude with the ability to interact tactfully
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, mail merges) and online search engines
  • Multitasking
