Mission: CAUSE Tutoring is a non-profit organization that is operated entirely by dedicated volunteers. We focus on increasing access to education for the vulnerable and at-risk community in the Ottawa area by providing free on-site tutoring services at our community partners.

Volunteer Position Description:

The Director of Finance is responsible for:

  • Overseeing and tracking the budget, including all incoming funds like sponsorships, and donations, and all outgoing expenses and reimbursements
  • Submitting reports to our donors
  • Reviewing and approving the budget in collaboration with the Executive Director
  • Ensuring knowledge of CAUSE Tutoring’s financial policies, procedures, and legal responsibilities
  • Preparing and filing the organization’s non-profit tax returns
  • Overseeing the procurement of grants, sponsorships, and donations and assisting in the drafting and revision of proposals
  • Providing guidance and direction
  • Manage accounting and especially bookkeeping
  • Attending all board meetings (every month) and volunteers meeting (every 2 weeks)

Qualifications and expectations for this role include:

  • Strong organizational and finance skills are a must
  • Financial bookkeeping and financial procurement, especially in non-profit
  • Experience in grant writing, procurement of funds, and budgeting is considered an asset
  • Dedication of a minimum of 5 hours per week; note that the hourly demands of this position fluctuate with tax season and events requiring financial aid and budgeting
  • Proficiency in French is considered an asset

  • Interacting with the public/in a group setting
