Community Project Highlights (March)
Posted on Monday, April 1st, 2019
From preparing meals to meeting furry friends, our #ACvolunteers have been busy giving back this month! Here is a look at a few ways our volunteers made a difference in March…
- Came back to Penny Lane Farm Sanctuary to visit some old friends! Penny Lane is a safe haven that rescues and rehabilitates animals. Over the years, our volunteers have gotten to know many of its four-legged residents, like Wilbur the pig:
“Wilbur lives with his son Pokey in their own separate enclosure. Originally used for breeding, Wilbur is still a growing boy who will eventually reach 1000 pound weight. He was surrendered to the Sanctuary by his previous owner who didn’t want to see him be sent to slaughter. He is constantly rearranging the interior of his house and landscaping his grounds! Like all pigs, he is extremely intelligent and quick to demonstrate that!”

- Supported a fun day of sports, games, and outdoor activities with Ausome Ottawa – an organization that provides recreational activities for kids with autism.
“Thank you for an amazing week! It brings tears to my eyes (in a good way) that my son has been given all these opportunities to participate in a variety of sports in such an inclusive and positive way. Thank you to you and to the amazing people at Ausome.”

- Cleaned and stocked the shelves at the Gloucester Emergency Food Cupboard, which distributes food to those in need in North Gloucester and West Orleans. If you’d like to donate, please check out the list of most needed items.
- Explored 17 goals to help build a sustainable future at the UN Sustainable Development Goals: Youth Training Conference held at Algonquin College.
- Cooked up a delicious taco lunch complete with a bean corn salad for residents and staff at The Oaks.
