Mission: NIED is the voice for Canadian families, caregivers, and individuals who are affected by Eating Disorders and other co-morbid and concurrent diagnoses. We help caregivers, patients, and practitioners fill gaps in care through education and by highlighting better practices in prevention, health promotion, and treatment. NIED is working with stakeholders across the country to address the gaps in current services, delays in treatment, lack of pan-Canadian data, and insufficient training for clinicians and healthcare professionals.

Volunteer Position Description:

We are seeking a Media Relations/Public Relations Co-Lead to join our growing communications team. This is a volunteer position requiring a commitment of approximately 2 hours a week. The position can work remotely from home. The incumbent will have the opportunity to participate in NIED’s communications team meetings, gain valuable experience in the development and execution of media relations/pr, and network with professionals in the not-for-profit sector.

Responsibilities:

  • Update media lists, calendars (editorial, conferences, events, etc.)
  • Participate in brainstorming and planning sessions Assist in organizing and execution of PR events, campaigns etc.
  • Conduct research to support PR planning Draft and distribute content such as newsletters and releases
  • Support relations with media and stakeholders Assist in tracking media coverage or PR metrics (e.g. web analytics)
  • Assist in the development of ways to improve media relations Undertake general administrative and clerical duties

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Interacting with the public / in a group setting
  • Communications or PR graduate
