Mission: The BYTOWN MUSEUM Youth Council (YoCo) is a group of students from high schools, universities, and colleges across Ottawa who have come together to explore Ottawa’s history. Our mission is to promote the city’s fascinating past, through our motto “for youth, by youth.” We share stories about Ottawa from its beginnings as a rough-and-tumble Bytown through to its rise as the nation’s capital. We reach out to our peers and fellow Ottawans through our blog posts, videos, contests, and events.

Volunteer Position Description: Are you 16 – 25 years old and interested in Ottawa and its history? The BYTOWN MUSEUM’s Youth Council, also known as YoCo, is looking for Youth Council Members like you!

YoCo is a program for youth, developed by youth that encourages youth to explore and share Ottawa’s history! Work collaboratively and brainstorm with others as you work on projects designed and organized by Youth Council Members. Attend training workshops and professional development opportunities, and learn what it is like to be part of a team in a museum setting!

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Police Record Check
  • Interacting with the public / in a group setting
  • 30 Minute Interview
