Introducing: Student Support Services

Students working in a group

Ah, September. Could there be a more exhilarating month in a student’s life? The smell of a new agenda, the extra-sticky sticky notes, free events in the AC Hub, and the hype of making it your best year yet. Maybe you’ve set goals for yourself, like volunteering more or having better study habits – it’s like New Year’s resolutions for your school year. If you’re anything like me, though, your resolutions last for about one month. But this year is going to be different. Why, you ask?

Enter: Student Support Services (SSS).

Whether or not you’ve already heard about SSS, I bet you’d be surprised at the variety of stuff they do. At the highest level, SSS can be broken down into 6 categories:

They also have specific resources for Indigenous Students and New Students.

If you’re not convinced that any of the categories apply to you, let me break down what SSS does even further. They do everything from helping you find a job to having dogs on campus for you to pet (seriously…need I say more?), from shedding light on navigating healthy sexual relationships to matching you with a peer tutor, from providing study spaces you can book to offering you volunteer opportunities in your community and around the globe. The list goes on and on. They have something for everyone, to make your time here at Algonquin as memorable and fulfilling as it can be.Paws 4 Stress

Take some time to click around on the SSS website and follow them on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for all the latest updates (don’t miss out on the puppers!).

Not really an “internet person,” but still want to learn more about SSS? Make sure to check out Campus Village on September 18 from 11am to 1pm in the Student Commons. Information booths will be set up, so come get all your questions answered, and find out what SSS can do for you – you might be surprised.

Your time here at Algonquin can be so much more than just going to class. There is an entire community here, and we’re excited to meet you. So let’s stick to our resolutions and keep up the hype about making this the best year yet!
