Mission: Options Bytown ends and prevents homelessness, one person at a time through a range of support systems. There are currently over 220 individuals who were formerly chronically homeless now living in Options Bytown buildings or have permanent housing in apartments across the city with supports through the Housing First program. These individuals receive housing and ongoing support from Options Bytown staff to help them maintain their tenancy, strengthen their life skills, work towards personal goals, and connect them with their surrounding community.

Options Bytown also prevents homelessness by providing support to another 1000 people living in social housing across the City through eight Resource Centres that are organized and run through a partnership with Ottawa Community Housing. Staff in these resource centres provide support to tenants to make it possible for them to stay housed and achieve a better quality of life. Staff aid them in maintaining their housing, accessing community supports, and any other assistance they may require.

Volunteer Position Description: We are looking for a volunteer who can play the piano for small groups of residents. Tenants would love to hear easy listening music and well-known tunes. This is a chance for volunteers to do something meaningful while having fun! This volunteer opportunity allows you to share something you are passionate about, practice playing in front of small groups and contribute to a more inclusive community.

Duties:

  • Play the piano in front of small groups
  • Have a desire to entertain and interact with tenants
  • Possibly provide some lessons to interested tenants

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Police Record Check
  • Minimum 19 Years of Age
