Mission: Apathy is Boring is a non-partisan, charitable organization that supports and educates youth to be active and contributing citizens in Canada’s democracy. Our vision is a Canada where every young Canadian is an active citizen, and youth are meaningfully engaged in all aspects of the democratic process.

Volunteer Position Description: RISE Ambassadors are the lead creatives behind the community project taking place in Ottawa. They will research topics to develop ideas for a community project and work in a group to decide on one project to execute and evaluate. This group will be led by the local project coordinator. The goal of the RISE program is to mobilize our less engaged peers in democracy by getting them involved in a community project around the theme of Social Inclusion. The last cohort, the ambassadors involved challenged stereotypes, created opportunities for dialogue between different youth groups, and used art as a means to talk about their peers’ experience with Social Exclusion. We’re looking forward to seeing what this cohort’s group of ambassadors come up with.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Attend an all-expenses-paid retreat to Quebec with RISE Ambassadors from across Canada
  • Build skills in event planning, community engagement, communications and marketing, partnership-building, and many more areas!
  • Create a community project on social inclusion from the ground up
  • Meet other awesome youth in Ottawa
  • Be a part of a national network of youth who want to make their communities better, stronger, and more inclusive.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Be 18-30 years old.
  • Make a weekly commitment of 6 hours (3 hours in person and 3 hours online) for 20 weeks between August 6th and December 17th, 2018
  • Attend a mandatory 3-day retreat between August 28th to 31st. All expenses paid!
