Mission: The mission of The Good Companions is to offer programs and services, in partnership with volunteers, to promote, enhance and support the well-being, independence and zest for living of both lder adults and adults with physical disabilities.
Volunteer Position Description: The Volunteer Program Leader – Art/Crafts leads the group, teaches new skills and shares their expertise in a specific area.
Duties
• Reviews room set up with the Crafts Coordinator and checks that room is set up;
• Review supplies to be provided by The Good Companions with the Crafts Coordinator;
• Assists with purchasing supplies (optional);
• Checks that supplies are available for class;
• Records program attendance;
• Leads group activities;
• Greets members to group and introduces and incorporates new members into group;
• Creates projects, lesson plans, provides information and teaches skills as discussed and agreed with Crafts Coordinator;
• Ensures room is cleared after class;
• Resolves minor issues;
• Reports major issues to the Crafts Coordinator and assists with resolution;
• Tracks and records personal volunteer hours; and
• Attends meetings/training as scheduled.
Requirements
• Warm, friendly, patient, courteous manner;
• Positive people oriented personality;
• Punctual and reliable;
• Understands the needs, interests and concerns of older adults and adults with physical disabilities;
• Experience in group management/leadership and/or teaching (asset);
• Interest in and knowledge of a specific art or craft;
• Experience in and ability to manage a program;
• Good communication skills;
• Spoken and written English;
• Ability to deal with minor conflicts;
• Maintains confidentiality;
• Able and willing to ask for support when needed; and
• Can abide by the limits and boundaries of the program.
Time Commitment
• Attends classes as scheduled with Crafts Coordinator; and
• Preparation time for class.
