Mission: The mission of The Good Companions is to offer programs and services, in partnership with volunteers, to promote, enhance and support the well-being, independence and zest for living of both lder adults and adults with physical disabilities.
Volunteer Position Description: Seniors’ Centre Without Walls Volunteer facilitates discussion and mediates programs/activities set out in the SCWW’s calendar.
Duties
• Greets and welcomes clients;
• Leads groups, keeps discussions on track;
• Researches topics for discussion;
• Encourages participation by all group members;
• Resolves minor group conflicts;
• Reports and requests assistance for serious conflicts;
• Tracks and records group statistics;
• Tracks and records volunteer hours; and
• Attends meetings/training as scheduled.
Requirements
• Warm, friendly, courteous manner;
• Positive people oriented personality;
• Punctual and reliable;
• Maintains confidentiality;
• Understands the needs, interests and concerns of older adults and adults with physical disabilities;
• Able to hear and talk clearly on the phone;
• Able to set aside own issues and problems while calling;
• Non-judgmental and accepting of diverse values and beliefs;
• Emotional resilience, stability and maturity;
• Able to work without supervision;
• Able and willing to ask for support when needed; and
• Can abide by the limits and boundaries of the program.
Commitment
• Dependent upon session
• Option of half an hour to hour sessions (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly)
