Mission: The mission of The Good Companions is to offer programs and services, in partnership with volunteers, to promote, enhance and support the well-being, independence and zest for living of both lder adults and adults with physical disabilities.

Volunteer Position Description: The grocery program transports clients to and from the grocery store, provides assistance with personal grocery shopping and a social coffee corner. The In-store Volunteer facilitates personal grocery shopping and monitors and supports in store program activities.

Duties

• Brings out carts and meets clients as they arrive at the store;
• Assists clients with their personal grocery shopping;
• Socializes with program participants;
• Picks up coffee and snacks and set up on table (Tuesdays);
• Assists with and monitors coffee area, including clean up;
• Monitors progress of group participants;
• Alerts Program Coordinator(s) immediately about any concerns or issues;
• Debrief with Program Coordinator as necessary;
• Records and reports personal volunteer hours; and
• Attends meetings/training as scheduled.

Requirements

• Warm, friendly, courteous manner;
• Positive people oriented personality;
• Punctual and reliable;
• Understands the needs, interests and concerns of older adults and adults with physical disabilities;
• Speaks and reads English;
• Physically able to provide assistance with shopping, reaching, carrying, reading labels;
• Maintains confidentiality;
• Able and willing to ask for support when needed; and
• Can abide by the limits and boundaries of the program.
