Preparation for Health Sciences
What is PHS?
- PHS is a package of four Academic Upgrading courses: Biology, Chemistry, Math, and Success Strategies
- The program provides students the pre-requisites for some of the health sciences programs at Algonquin College (exceptions apply)
- Learning takes place through lectures, group work, games, labs, self-reflection, etc.
- PHS is an intensive full-time day program. Classes will be a hybrid of 3 days each week on campus and 1 day of virtual learning

- Winter 2025: January 6 – May 2 – Accepting Applications for Winter 2025
To be eligible for PHS you must:
- Be 19 years of age or older
- Live in the Ottawa area
- Be missing at least two of the three pre-requisite courses for college level health sciences programs (Biology, Chemistry, or Math)
- Meet the English requirement by either completing the English Language Skills Assessment (ELSA) or having one of the following courses: Academic Upgrading College Prep. Communication (ENL5958) or Communications 1 (ENL1813)
