Academic Access Centre

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Academic Upgrading Suspended

Algonquin College has made the difficult decision to suspend the Academic Upgrading program at the Ottawa campus, and are not accepting new students. We encourage you to contact other local and online Literacy and Basic Skills providers or high school credit/equivalency providers for your next steps. We appreciate your understanding and wish you the best in your educational journey.

The Academic Access Centre has helped thousands of international students from around the world to improve their skills in the areas of language comprehension, vocabulary, writing and grammar. Communication skills are critical tools which enables academic success together with personal growth. Our English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program provides language training in an academic environment and can fulfill admission criteria for post-secondary studies. The program covers various levels of instruction, from beginner to advanced, with courses in speaking, reading, writing, listening, pronunciation and grammar.

We also partner with the John Howard Society of Ottawa to offer the ACElinks Academic Upgrading program. This offering, located at the main office of the John Howard Society of Ottawa, prepares students for further education, training and employment through academic upgrading and advisement.

If you require language testing, either for study, work and/or immigration purposes, Algonquin College offers the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or Test d’évaluation de français (TEF) Canada. Learn more about language testing.
