Academic Upgrading

Academic Upgrading can help you launch your path to post-secondary education, apprenticeship or direct employment. Courses are offered in English, math, biology, chemistry and computer skills. Tuition is completely funded for most Ontario residents, and you can start any time of the year with our continuous intake.

Become college eligible by completing the courses you need to meet the admissions requirements for your post-secondary program of interest. With day and evening courses, work at your own pace to meet your goals.

Also access our scheduled programming:

  • Academic Upgrading – Evening Sciences (college preparation biology and/or chemistry) are part-time individual science courses offered twice per week, per course, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. ET for 16 consecutive weeks. Courses are offered twice per year, starting in late August and early January.
  • Preparation for Health Sciences (PHS) is a packaged offering of four Academic Upgrading courses including biology, chemistry, mathematics and success strategies. An intensive full-time day program that runs for 16 consecutive weeks, PHS is delivered twice per year, starting in late August and early January. Completion of this program helps learners qualify for Algonquin College health sciences programs.

Pursue the Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) certificate to earn a Grade 12 equivalency in a college environment. Study at our Ottawa campus, Pembroke campus, or at the John Howard Society in downtown Ottawa.
