Welcome
The Academic Access Centre prepares students for further education, training and employment through academic upgrading and advisement. We are known for our innovation, leadership, qualified instructors, highly effective teaching techniques, and student success.
The Academic Access Centre offers the following services:
Academic Access Advisors
Advisors are available to meet with you one-on-one to discuss your academic goals and identify the steps necessary to reach them.
Academic Upgrading
Need to become college eligible? Academic Upgrading enables you to earn the Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) Certificate, a Grade 12 equivalency in a college environment. Or, study only the courses you need to meet the admission requirements for your postsecondary program of choice. Courses are offered in English, mathematics, biology, chemistry, computer skills and success strategies. Twice a year, the Academic Access Centre also offers a specialized program called Preparation for Health Sciences (PHS) for students interested in becoming qualified for Algonquin College health science programs.
Each year, approximately 600 Academic Upgrading students gain the training and skills required to get into, and be successful in, their postsecondary program of choice. In total, these students transitioned into 100 different postsecondary and apprenticeship programs.
This Employment Ontario program is funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario and through the Canada-Ontario Job Fund Agreement. This means that Academic Upgrading courses are FREE for most Ontario residents, and in some cases childcare and transportation costs are covered.
