Student Experience
Algonquin College is proud to provide a diverse and dynamic student experience. Check out the highlights below to get a sense of what to expect as a student in the Electrical Engineering Technician program.
From doorbells to robots – You can’t see electricity so how can you decide why something is not working? Students in the Electrical Engineering Technician program at Algonquin College learn to use meters, scopes and other tools to diagnose problems. This starts with simple house wiring circuits and progresses through electronic, automation and robotics circuits. Students in the electrical program learn to design and build circuits from doorbells to robots.
State-of-the-art Facilities – This program is offered in the LEED®Platinum Certified Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence (ACCE). The Centre offers 190,000 square feet of space that allows for all construction and related design programs to be housed in a single location. This inter-professional space will encourage collaboration between disciplines and offer many integrated and cross-program learning opportunities for students.

Success Stories & Testimonials
Hear first-hand from students about their experience in the program.
Nicole Lemieux, a graduate of the Electrical Engineering Technology program at Algonquin College is featured in the Fletcher Foundation STEM Video Series. In this video, Nicole outlines what a typical “day in the life” is like being an Electrical Engineering Technologist at BPA.
Students in the Electrical Engineering Technology program at Algonquin College complete a design or analysis project under the guidance of a faculty advisor. They interpret and prepare specifications, technical drawings, instructions, and estimates, as well as apply project management principles to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of their projects.
