What’s in the AC Café?

When you explore the AC Café in Brightspace, you’ll be able to access all of the modules listed below. Read these descriptions for an idea of the topics covered in the AC Café.

  • AC Technology.Find out about the college tech tools you’ll use to access course content (Brightspace), see your student information (ACSIS), send and receive college-related emails (Live @AC/Microsoft 365), join video meetings (Zoom) and more.
  • Avoid Academic Misconduct.Find out about Academic Integrity and what is expected of you at Algonquin when completing assignments, taking tests, and participating in other scholarly activities. This module includes an online activity with interactive scenarios so you can practice making the right decisions about academic integrity.
  • Mental Wellness.Learn strategies to help you with your mental health and well-being so that you feel mentally well and ready to handle the challenges of college. Find out how to manage your stress and bounce back from challenges.
  • Things to do before starting your program.Prepare for the start of term using this handy list of tasks you can do before you start your classes. Find out how to submit a photo for your AC Card/ U-Pass, access your Booklist, apply for OSAP, or find a job on campus.
  • Understand and Manage Your Timetable.Discover how to find and understand your timetable so you know when and where your classes will be held. You can also find out how to make changes to your timetable.
  • Security & Safety.Find out how you can improve your safety on and off campus. You can also discover tips to help you stay safe online and recognize some common types of scams.
  • International Students.Discover information to help you prepare for college in Canada (such as registering for arrival services and knowing the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) rules). You can also access the calendar of events for international students, which includes events such as social activities.
  • Academic Support.You will learn about the various people at the college who will be available to help and support you during your studies (Program Coordinator, Academic Advisor, Student Success Specialist, etc.). These people are committed to your success at the college, so take some time to get to know how each can help you.
  • AC Culture and Student Life.You will discover ways to connect with others and access important services on campus. You will find information on events and workshops, places to eat, mental and physical health resources, clubs, and volunteering and working on campus.
  • Navigating the Ottawa Campus.Find out how to get to the Ottawa campus and how to find your classroom once you’re here. You can also discover the services available to help you find your way on the campus, such as Here 2 Help booths and campus tours.
  • Prepare for Your Math Course.Will you be using math in your program? This module will help you prepare. Take a quick math assessment and then access resources to improve the areas where you need help.
  • Study Skills.Take a self-assessment of your current study skills, like time management and note-taking, and explore resources that can help you improve any areas that could be stronger.
