Admissions Information for Personal Support Workers
Eligibility:
To be eligible for the Personal Support Worker program, applicants must have graduated from high school and have Grade 12 English ENG4C or equivalent. Non-high school graduates can apply as mature applicants if they are at least 19 years of age. Mature applicants are required to write a pre-admission test to determine their eligibility for the program.
How to Apply:
Applications to the PSW program are made through the Ontario College Application Service. Applications are available in November each year, with the program starting in September.
Applicants who feel they require some upgrading of their academics, may contact the College Preparation Program and inquire about free upgrading classes. Classes that are offered include English, Math, Computer Skills and Sciences. The College Preparation Program co-ordinator can be reached at 613-735-4700, ext. 2866.
Criminal Records Check:
Students who study in the Personal Support Worker program must have a clear criminal records check to be permitted to participate in placement opportunities. This is required by the employers who provide placement experiences for students as part of their employee expectations.
Applicants to the Personal Support Worker program can obtain a police records check by contacting the police service in their community. Some police services charge a fee for this service. Police Departments can also provide guidance to applicants who require pardon services. NOTE: A clear Police Records check must be provided to the College in advance of starting the program.
Health Assessment and Immunization Form:
Accepted applicants must complete a Health Assessment & Immunization Form:prior to registration. See here for important notes on Immunization requirements.
First Aid & CPR:
A current Standard First Aid and CPR Level “C” certificate is required prior to registration.
Need to Complete a First Aid / CPR Course?
St. John Ambulance is hosting a First Aid / CPR Course in the Town of Arnprior
on April 25 to 26 (Saturday - Sunday).
The course will run from
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days at the St. John House building at 55 Tierney St. North, next to the police station in Arnprior.
