WORKING WITH OUR COMMUNITY HEALTH CARE PARTNERS
Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley has had a long-standing relationship with our health care partners for many health science and health-related programs we have offered over the years. Through student work placements, our partners have helped us teach and train our students at local health care facilities for over 30 years, providing experienced guidance, mentorship and support.
Personal Support Workers students will receive over two hundred hours of practical training experiences within Renfrew County. Among the many organizations that partner with Algonquin College to provide placement opportunities are Marianhill and Miramichi Lodge in Pembroke, Bonnechere Manor in Renfrew, and the North Renfrew Long-Term Care Centre in Deep River.
Several privately-operated health care organizations that provide home care services or operate retirement homes also provide placement experiences to students.
All of these partnerships provide our students with an opportunity to network with potential employers and often lead to either part-time or full-time employment upon graduation.

Practice Labs: The above photos show PSW students practicing their skills with each other and nursing lab 'patient' mannequins during a practice lab. Under the guidance of an instructor, they learn to take vital signs, provide colostomy and catheter care, and numerous other hands-on techniques they will perform on a regular basis in their work.
