HERE ARE THE TOP 10 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD STUDY IN PEMBROKE:
#1 - Small Class Sizes
With a low student/teacher ratio, you will receive the attention you need to be successful in your studies.
#2 - Experience
Nursing education has been part of the City of Pembroke for almost a century. Starting with the Lorrain School of Nursing and continuing on with Algonquin College, thousands of nurses have received superlative nursing education in Pembroke.
#3 - Bursary Program
Every student registered in their first year of the Pembroke B.Sc.N. program in Fall 2008 will receive a special bursary (amount to be determined). This bursary is being made possible by Renfrew County health care employers and is only available to students studying in Pembroke.
#4 - Excellent Clinical Experiences
Students will work side-by-side with Registered Nurses in several health care settings including the brand new Miramichi Lodge and the newly-renovated Pembroke Regional Hospital. Among the new facilities at the PRH is an Acute Mental Health Unit, Intensive Care Unit, In-Patient Rehabilitation Unit, Medical Unit, Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Department, and Out-Patient Rehabilitation Unit.
#5 - Lab Facilities
New equipment is always being added to our Nursing labs, and the use of technology provides our students with exceptional practical learning experiences. Our newest equipment includes computerized simulated mannequins that communicate with students just like real patients
#6 - Low Cost of Living
Earn your Nursing Degree from the University of Ottawa and Algonquin College but save yourself the high cost of living in a big city. The City of Pembroke is a small community of approximately 15,000 which offers students affordable housing, most of which is within walking distance of the campus.
#7 - Active Students’ Association
By investing in new facilities on campus and organizing plenty of social events throughout the year, our Students’ Association has created a terrific environment for students. Plus, the S.A. supports students with several services including a dental and health plan, photocopying services, sports, and more.
#8 - Great Student Services
With a campus of 800 full-time students annually, we are big enough to offer you the services you expect, but small enough to get to know you. Whether it’s health services, financial assistance, counselling, or tutoring, we’ll be there for you when you need us.
#9 - Graduate Satisfaction
For several years running, Algonquin College has been been a leader in the province for student satisfaction (results of the provincial Key Performance Indicators survey).
#10 - Employment Opportunities
Our grads get jobs! More than 92% of Algonquin graduates are employed within six months of graduation. For Nursing, over 90% of our graduates were employed according to Algonquin College’s Graduate Employment Report for 2000 to 2003 grads.
