In the summer of 2006, the Nursing Lab at Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley received a complete facelift.

The new
lab features modern health monitoring equipment used in today’s hospitals which provides the training tools and realistic hands-on practice that students need as they prepare for their clinical experiences at health care facilities throughout the Ottawa Valley.

This major renovation project has created a centre of excellence for nursing education which includes simulated patients who breathe and verbalize their 'symptoms' to students, and can even deliver a baby.
Sim Man and Sim Woman are computer-controlled patients and can be programmed with a variety of medical symptoms where students can observe and assess before determining an appropriate intervention to assist the patient.

New and seasoned students in the B.Sc.N. program look at the equipment or demonstrate procedures and some of the equipment they have access to in the new nursing lab at the Pembroke Campus.
