Loggersports
chop logs

Loggersports is a unique varsity sport offered at the Pembroke Campus.

Loggersports recall the skills and traditions of foresters of the past. Both the men's and the women's team, many of whose members are from the Forestry Technician program, compete against other college teams in a variety of events that include the axe throw, pole climb, water boil, horizontal and vertical chop, cross-cut saw, chain saw, and log roll.

Safety is of upmost concern, and is emphasized at all times, yet each participant has a great time with this challenging and robust outdoor sport!

The Loggersports head coach is Chris Ryan. Chris is a graduate of the Forestry Technician program and is also a member of the Forestry faculty. His many contacts throughout the Forest industry has led to a team sponsorship STIHL Limited Canada.  STIHL provides the Timbersports Team with chain saws and accessories, hats, suspenders, sweaters, possible bursaries, and a significant discount at the local STIHL dealership. Besides the kind sponsorship of STIHL, the Loggersports team is fully funded by the Students' Association of Algonquin College.

We encourage you to join this unique varsity team. Contact Chris for further details at ryanc1@algonquincollege.com.
