Quick Start for New Students

Welcome to Algonquin College.

As a student in a mobile learning program you will be require to have a laptop or mobile device that meets the requirements of your program. Visit the Algonquin Mobile Learning website and click on your program title for more information.

You will aslo require a network username and password. You will also want to access your current course timetable.

Algonquin Services & Online Resources

Algonquin College offers many resources and services to support Academics and Student Life. Browse through the links below to find information on services you are entitled to as an Algonquin Student.

Algonquin College Student Information System (ACSIS) is a website where you can:

  • Find information about your courses,
  • View and print your timetable,
  • View your grades and GPA,
  • Drop Courses,
  • Transfer to a different section,
  • Find your Algonquin network username and password, etc.

Blackboard Learn is the College’s main Learning Management System (LMS). Blackboard contains information about your courses, including:

  • Course Outlines,
  • Class Schedules,
  • Course Materials and Assignments,
  • Progress reports and more.

The Learning Resources Centre offers both in-person and online library resources and services. Our resources include:

  • books and DVDs
  • articles (research databases)
  • ebooks, and videos
  • online tutorials
  • open educational resources

Lynda.com is a library of thousands of up-to-date video tutorials designed to keep you current in various software packages.

FOD - Films on Demand is a searchable database of streaming academic video clips.

K-Alliance is an online video tutorial system for software products

SAFARI eBooks from the technology industry as well as Business materials.

The Information Technology Services (ITS) website holds information about:

  • Your network account,
  • Email (Live@AC),
  • Printing Services,
  • Network (N) Drive,
  • Cyber Security,
  • The Wireless Network,
  • Virtual Desktop Initiative, etc.

Students in Mobile Learning Programs are required to purchase a computing device to enhance the learning experience, obtain and work with course related material, participate in collaborative and mlearning environments, and become skilled, confident users of technology within the educational environment and the workplace.
Students in Mobile Learning Programs are entitled to Microsoft Office and Adobe Master Collection software free of charge.

The Algonquin Students’ Association is a student-run, not-for profit corporation that represents you in the areas of Academics and College Governance, as well as Student Life. Services offered by the Students’ Association include:

AdobeAlgonquin has licences for a variety of Adobe Software, including: Acrobat X, Master Collection 5.5, Photoshop Elements 9, Premiere Elements 9.

You must install antivirus software on your computer.
Some free solutions include:

Commercial antivirus software may be purchased at the New Technology Store.

CorelCorel Designer X5, CorelDRAW X5, Corel Painter 12, PaintShop Photo Pro X3 and WordPerfect Office X5

To get your Corel software, go to your campus' Learning Resource Centre (Library) and borrow a copy of the DVD's.

MS OfficeMS Office for 2010(Win) and 2011(Mac) are collections of programs that include Word, Access, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Windows 7MS Windows 7 is an operating system that you need to install on your computer in order to run the software.

is a virtual desktop where the windows desktop and programs you see are run remotely on a server, but appear as though running on your machine. This is an easy way to access costly software.

The Anatomy and Physiology Resource site contains free information and tools for professors to use in their courses. This site includes:
