| Teachers of English as a Second/Foreign Language |
This graduate certificate program prepares individuals to teach ESL/EFL to adult learners. It provides specialized knowledge and skills in the area of ESL/EFL methodology, teaching techniques, syllabus design, and evaluation. Using an intercultural perspective, students develop their basic knowledge regarding the English language and current issues in adult literacy. Both theoretical and practical aspects are covered with the emphasis on the practical. Hands-on experience is provided through practicum courses.
Graduates may find employment as ESL teachers in Continuing Education, in community-based ESL programs, as Business and Industry ESL trainers, and as Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). Some graduates explore teaching opportunities abroad.
