TSL 5501: Post-TESL Certification: Teaching Listening and Speaking with Technology

Teaching Listening and Speaking with Technology, offered as a post-TESL certificate course, focuses on the use of Internet tools and applications which can be employed to facilitate development of listening and speaking skills in second language learners. Students registered for this blended course can attend classes onsite or join class sessions online in real time through Blackboard Collaborate, a web-conferencing environment. In addition to in-class hours, participants are required to participate in weekly online discussions.

In this course, participants will explore synchronous and asynchronous online tools used to teach listening and speaking, including multimodal web-conferencing environments such as Blackboard Collaborate and 3D Virtual Worlds. Participants will also familiarize themselves with the concept of tandem learning. Although the course is structured as a survey of various online tools available to language learners and instructors to teach listening and speaking, participants will be engaged in hands-on exploration of the tools and in online material development, and will learn how to teach in the web-conferencing environment Blackboard Collaborate.
