Step 3 - : Increased Wireless Data Encryption through VPN
  • When using WEP as the chosen connection method, the data encryption of the user traffic is very minimal and with minor intervention of a third party, the data could be read in plain text. This option allows users once they have created a connection with WEP to encrypt their data further by negotiating a VPN transaction for each session.
  • Requirements:
    • Installation of the Algonquin College provided VPN client.
    • Windows 9x, 2000, and XP- Windows 9x, 2000, and XP Cisco VPN Client
    • Linux - Linux Cisco VPN Client
    • You need this file to connect to Algonquin College Internal Wireless Increased Data encryption Network. It contains all the setting required for network connectivity.
    • Configuration of the WEP wireless connection profile.
  • Right click here to download the Algonquin College Internal Wireless .pcf configuration file.

    • 1. Select ‘Save Target As…'
    • 2. In the ‘Save as type:' box, choose ‘All Files' as shown:
      screen capture

  • After you have downloaded the .pcf file, continue with the following instructions:
    • 1. Open the Cisco VPN Client.

      screen capture
    • 2. Choose the imported Algonquin College Internal Wireless profile and click connect.
