Genesis Support

Genesis is a student administration system used by staff. There are two versions of Genesis available There is the traditional server application that you access with Smarterm - a terminal emulator. This version has all the features and is accessed by clicking on the genesis or adm1 icon.

The second version, Genesis.Net, is a web application that you access with Internet Explorer. It is still being developed but some sections are complete and in use today. As new sections come online we are moving to them. The interface tends to be much friendlier and easier to use.

Genesis Support

When you need access to the Genesis information Algonquin must do everything possible to protect the people who's information you will see. So the access is restricted to only those who need it.

Getting an Account

Your manager needs to contact Gina Ginou-Brennan at ext 7002 to request an account. Your needs will be evaluated to see what screens you should have access to.

Smarterm

Smarterm is the terminal emulator which allows Genesis to run on your computer. If there is no icon on your desktop it may still be installed on your computer. Go to Start, Programs and look for a folder called Smarterm or Persoft. Then go into "User Smarterm Sessions" and click on adm1 or genesis icon.

Password

You will be given a password which you will use with your regular account username. Please note that this password expires every 90 days when you will have to pick a new one. To change your password at any time go to system utilities and enter the new password.

If ITS resets your Genesis password it will take 1-2 hours to affect Genesis.Net.

Problems

If an error occurs while you are using Genesis make sure you record the error number and the screen number you were in. This will help ITS to resolve the issue.

From Home

Remember that if you want to use Genesis from home you must be connected with VPN or dial up. If you don't have smarterm installed you can still access it with Citrix.
