Logging In 
  • The first thing we must do is log into the account. This is done by pointing your browser to http://algonquinstudents.com and clicking on the link: Web Account Login Panel.


  • We should now be at the login screen. This screen asks you for your username and password which was emailed to you during the account creation process (see Two Emails in the account creation instructions). Once you have finished entering this information, please press Log In.

    The Control Panel 
  • The control panel is the main screen you will use to administer your account. There are five different sections on this page which contain links to information about those sections. They are: The following sections of this page give a brief explanation of the different sections of the Control Panel.

    1. quick-start tutorial 
  • Clicking on this link will open up a new browser window. The new window is actually the help interface which automatically loads to the Quick-start tutorial. Feel free to browse through the sections here to learn the basics of the Control Panel.

    2. configuration 
  • This section is broken down into four smaller sections:
    1. overview
    2. edit
    3. skins
    4. change password

  • The first link is overview. This link will bring you to a page which contains an overview of your account information. This is everything from your name, email address, username and any other personal information stored in your account.
  • The second link is edit. This link will bring you to a page similar to the overview page but it allows you to change most of the information.
  • The third like is skins. This allows you to set/change the skin (look and feel) that the control panel is using.
  • The final link is change password. This link allows you to change your password should you deem it necessary.

    3. help 
  • This section contains one link, general help. This link will bring you to the general help section of the Control Panel (in a new window). Click here if you would like to get some help regarding the Control Panel aspect of your account. This is a more in depth-version of quick-start tutorial.

    4. iis web service 
  • This section has one link, overview which will bring you to a page that lists the address of your website. Use this if you need a reminder of your site's address.

    5. iis ftp service 
  • This section has one link, overview which will bring you to a page that lists the address of algonquinstudents.com ftp server.


    PLEASE NOTE: The site lists the port as 10003 but that will not work (and therefore clicking on the displayed link will not work either). The actual port is the default ftp port: 21. Also, with the current configuration of the algonquinstudents.com server, to connect using ftp you must tell your ftp client not to use a passive connection. The address of the ftp server is:
    • ftp://algonquinstudents.com
    For information on how to use the FTP server, choose the appropriate link on the left-hand menu of this page (Windows XP with Internet Explorer 6, Windows XP with Internet Explorer 7 or Windows Vista).

    6. frontpage server extensions 2002 
  • This section contains only one link, overview which will bring you to a page saying that if you wish to publish content using FrontPage, you must login using FrontPage. It also lists the username that you are to use which is the same as the one used to login to the Control Panel (same password as well).
