Message from Maria Schnurr, International Projects Manager, International Education Centre

Welcome to Algonquin College and the new web resources of the International Education Centre. Algonquin International Education Centre's (IEC) commitment to international development is reflected in over 20 years of successful project activities in Asia, Europe, India, the Middle East and South America. Algonquin maintains these educational partnerships far beyond project completion, ensuring continued success and sustainability. You will notice from reading through our web pages that our work in the IEC is quite varied. Our success in our work in international development, study abroad opportunities, international internships for graduates, teacher training for overseas clients, customized training and consulting services - comes from our team of dedicated IEC professionals, with a wide variety of backgrounds and skills.

The IEC is committed to being a key player in international human resources development around the globe. It provides leading-edge education and training to partners in over 50 countries worldwide. We have developed an international reputation for excellence that has resulted in the college providing curriculum assistance to academic institutions in countries around the world. Algonquin is an active international educator and has proven experience in customizing and adapting courses for overseas clients and partners.

Algonquin has recently twinned in China, India, Tanzania and South Africa on institutional strengthening projects. Over the past ten years Algonquin has been involved in more than 30 international cooperation projects funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and other international organizations such as the World Bank and the African Development Bank.

The IEC has gained substantial experience over the years in these projects. In Europe, Algonquin was the lead College in the implementation of the CIDA-supported Bosnia Media Training project and participated in the implementation of the World Bank Youth Vocational Education Project. Algonquin has also executed projects with the support of CIDA's Canadian Partnership Branch in Europe, Africa and Asia. Algonquin's International projects have also included in-Canada placements, teacher training, project design, development and management, project evaluation, and customization of curriculum in a wide variety of studies.

I am very pleased to introduce you to our new web pages focused on international development and the activities of Algonquin's IEC. I encourage you to read through these web pages to discover more about what we do and how you may get involved.

I would like to thank the Public Engagement Fund at the Canadian International Development Agency whose generous support has assisted us in providing these new web resources for College students and staff.
