Each year students of the School of Hospitality and Tourism at Algonquin College have a great deal of success with their applications to the many external scholarships and awards that are available throughout North America. COLLEGE AWARDS
Students are nominated by faculty to the Dean of the School of Hospitality and Tourism for the following awards based on the specific criteria for each award.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD
Awarded to a graduating international Student with the highest GPA in the final semester who are in a full time program and have a valid study permit.
P.J. QUIGLEY’S AWARD
Students registered in Level 2 of the Culinary Management, Culinary Skills-Chef Training and Hospitality-Hotel Restaurant programs maybe considered as candidates for this scholarship.
NELSON EDUCATION HOSPITALITY COMMUNICATION AWARD
This award will be given to a second term Hospitality and Tourism student who
has achieved the highest grade in the second level English course - ENL1823H or ENL1942 while maintaining a good attendance record, demonstrating leadership capabilities and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
BARTENDING CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
THE ROYAL OAK BARTENDERS' AWARD of EXCELLENCE
This award will be given to the student that best exemplifies excellence in their role as a bartending professional, has a minimum GPA of 3.0, participates in class, has a positive attitude and an overall high level of professionalism.
CULINARY - CHEF TRAINING PROGRAMS
ACE BAKERY SCHOLARSHIP
This annual award will be given to the student who shows the most promise,
dedication and academic excellence in their first year of study in the Culinary
Management program. The Faculty of the program will select the recipient based on a GPA of 3.0, on practical skills, and a demonstrated dedication to Culinary Management.
CANADA CUTLERY AWARD
This award is presented to a graduating student in the Culinary Management program who has demonstrated strong leadership and culinary skills.
CHARPENTIER-HALE TROPHY
This award is given to a first-year student returning to the second year of the
Culinary Management program who has demonstrated exceptional culinary skills.
LES MARMITONS of OTTAWA-HULL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
This award is given to a deserving student entering the second year of the
Culinary Management program who has demonstrated creativity and superior practical ability while maintaining at least a 'B' average throughout the program.
EVENT MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
CONFERENCE PUBLISHERS AWARD
Awarded to a full time student who must submit an essay not to exceed 500 words responding to the question “Why meet?.”
TERRY RODGERS SCHOLARSHIP
This award is presented to agraduating in the Event Management program who has achieved a GPA of 3.0. The student must demonstrate strong nterpersonal,communication and organizational skills.
HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT - HOTEL and RESTAURANT PROGRAM
E. HARRY DUGAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
This scholarship award is presented to a returning student who successfully completed the first-year of the Hospitality Management - Hotel and Restaurant program. The recipient will have attained a GPA of 3.0 and be recommended to the Dean of the School of Hospitality and Tourism by a committee comprised of program faculty members.
HENK HYMANS SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
This scholarship award is presented to a student returning to the second year of the Hospitality Management - Hotel and Restaurant Program who has attained a GPA of 3.0, has demonstrated professional promise, an ability to communicate and relate well with others, has strong organizational skills and leadership ability.
MCDONALDS RESTAURANT cANADA SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship award is presented to a student returning to Level 3 of the Hospitality Management - Hotel and Restaurant Program who has demonstrated significant progress throughout the first year of the program.
TOURISM and TRAVEL PROGRAM
AMEX CANADA INC. AWARD
This award is presented to a first-year Tourism and Travel program student who has demonstrated strong technical skills in Computer Reservations and Airlines courses, a professional and resourceful attitude, excellent interpersonal communications skills and the ability to be a team worker.
GALILEO CANADA AWARD
Galileo Canada Distribution Systems Inc., in partnership with Algonquin College and the School of Hospitality and Tourism will award this scholarship to a student in the program who has maintained the highest grade throughout all Computer Reservations courses.
MARIA PROVENZANO AWARD
This award is given to a first year student returning to Level 3 of the Tourism and Travel Program who is conscientious, has maintained a minimum GPA of 2.0, is cooperative and helpful to others and who has fostered an atmosphere of participation in the program.
