Being Mentored For Success

This online course will focus on skill development for effective mentoring partnerships within the Canadian workplace with the goal of developing and enhancing work related relationships.

Emphasis will be on communication, relationship building, leadership, conflict resolution, goal setting, change management and problem-solving. Students will develop an awareness of the workplace in Canadian society and will learn personal management techniques and practical tools to engage in effective and successful interpersonal relationships in practical settings.

This course would be of interest to anyone seeking to being engaged in the mentoring partnership as a mentee to build skills and knowledge and to create opportunities for themselves.

The course objectives are:

  • Identify the factors and barriers influencing communication and recognize the importance of planning for successful interactions and using appropriate techniques to promote effective communication.
  • Demonstrate an ability to analyze personal conflict resolution style to identify strengths and areas requiring improvement.
  • Demonstrate an ability to use reflection of personal behaviours, attitudes, values, ethics and leadership styles to positively impact mentoring partnerships.
  • Recognize the value of participating as a mentee in Canadian society and apply strategies to promote successful mentoring partnerships.
  • Develop goals and create personal development plans to guide the mentorship partnership.
  • Identify and plan for the application of learnings and transfer of skills from the mentorship partnership to enhance work related relationships in Canadian society.
