Human Resources Management is one of seven majors that Business Administration students can select. In the second half of the three-year Business Administration Ontario College Advanced Diploma program, you select a major to specialize in. Prior to selecting a major, you develop a strong foundation various business skills.
The Business Administration - Human Resources Management program prepares you for a meaningful human resources management career.

Qualified students may benefit from completing an optional 30-hour field placement in your final semester and apply your knowledge and skills in a real work environment.
Should you elect to earn your Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation from the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA), one of the requirements is the completion of nine courses. Each of the nine HRPA required designation courses are offered within this major. This program is also approved by the Society of Human Resources Managers (SHRM).

Programs at Algonquin College are delivered using a variety of instruction modes. Program Resources
Should a student elect to earn their CHRP from the HRPA, one of the requirements to earn this designation are nine courses. Each of the nine HRPA required designation courses are within this major.Students may elect to earn a SHRM designation.
Field placement (subject to student qualification) is completed in Level 06 as 30 unpaid hours of human resources management tasks. Students who do not complete a field placement are required to complete MGT2398 - Human Resources Professional Career Preparation.

Program Coordinator
Ray has worked in the National Capital Region for over 25 years and has held positions in Human Resources, Information Technology and Management Consulting.
Currently, in addition to teaching at Algonquin College, he works in Global HRIS for Alcatel-Lucent, a global telecommunications corporation with a strong presence in Ottawa.
Ray holds his Masters of Business Administration Degree from Queen’s University.
Ray has a strong passion for teaching, and greatly enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience with students to assist them in achieving their own career aspirations.
Ian Anderson

Ian has been teaching at Algonquin College for 20 years, primarily in HR and Management. Ian has been a coordinator, course developer, facilitator, mentor and coach during his time at the college.
His background in industry includes being an HR Director of a large IT firm and as a management consultant for more than 25 years.
Ian has served on the Board of Directors for many Ottawa-based charities.
Ian is the author of the 10th edition Fundamentals of Management and 1st edition Training and Development from Pearson Canada and the Knowledge Management chapter in the C.S.A.E. Association Handbook.
When he’s not teaching, Ian is a Sommelier and a Special Olympics coach. Ian received an MBA in Innovation Leadership from the University of Fredericton, has his Registered Professional Trainer (RPT) and Registered Professional Recruiter (RPR) designations, and is a Certified Change Management Professional through ProSci.
Erika Bryan-Clayton

Erika is a Professor in Human Resources and is the School of Business Faculty Coop Coordinator.
Erika has over 11 years of teaching experience and over 8 years Coop experience at Algonquin College.
Her industry experience has been as a Human Resources Generalist for both public sector organizations and private enterprises.
Erika holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Ottawa with a double major in Human Resources Management and Marketing.
Erika enjoys guiding and supporting students through their academic journey to develop skills which will enable their success for their chosen career.
When she is not teaching Erika enjoys travelling and participating in a wide variety of sports.

Carol Ann Samhaber
Professor
Dr. Carol Ann Samhaber is a Professor and Academic Coordinator of the Algonquin College Human Resources Management programs. Dr. Samhaber is highly involved in these programs as she develops courses and student assessment strategies, teaches and advises students, and fosters community relations through both an academic and human resources management lens. Above and beyond, she considers her role as an educator an honor. Carol Ann believes it is a privilege to provide students with a safe and inclusive learning space to prepare them for meaningful careers and to become contributing members of their communities.
Along with obtaining her Doctor of Education, she also holds a Master of Science, College Teaching and Learning. Her Doctor of Education research focus was faculty professional development, a field she ultimately views as key to strategic success and operational best practices. Carol Ann also holds several designations including her CBA, RPR, RPT, CHRL, CPHR, SHRM-SCP, and GPHR. Dr. Samhaber is the HRPA as Past Chair, Board of Directors Ottawa and District, SHRM, and is co-author of Canadian Strategic Compensation: A Human Resource Management Approach, and Recruitment and Selection: A Strategic Approach for Canadian Organizations, and Labour Relations.
