The Premier's Awards, for Graduates of Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology, is an annual provincial awards program created by the government to acknowledge the important economic and social contribution college graduates make to Ontario.
The Premier's Awards are presented to college graduates who have excelled in their careers and made a significant contribution to society. Awards are presented each year in the following categories: |

Chris Gordon is Vice-President and General Manager of CHUM Radio Group in Ottawa. He manages the staff and operations of four separate radio stations—580 CFRA, The Team 1200, BOB FM and Majic 100. Since graduating from Algonquin he has risen through the ranks at multiple radio outlets in multiple markets. He worked at Q101 in Ottawa as On-air Host, then Assistant Music Director; at KIK FM in Calgary as Music Director, then Assistant Program Director, then Program Director; at The Hawk in London, Ontario, as Program and Operations Manager; and at KOOL FM in Ottawa as Program Director. |

Kim Hiscott is Director of the Kanata Research Park Family Centre, an onsite, licensed not-for-profit group early-learning program. A graduate of Algonquin College’s Early Childhood Education program, she has been active in the field for more than 20 years. Hiscott is highly regarded for her innovative approach to early childhood education. At the KRP facility, she has introduced a number of novel programs; she set up a video gateway that allows parents a secure view into the centre, and established an arrangement with the local school board to host Junior and Senior Kindergarten programs at the centre. |

Stephen Beckta is proprietor of Beckta dining & wine, Ottawa’s premier fine dining restaurant. A graduate of Algonquin College’s Sommelier program with honours, he spent the first leg of his career in New York City. He worked for two years at Café Boulud for celebrated chef Daniel Boulud, and for two years at Eleven Madison Park with renowned restauranteur Danny Meyer before returning to his native city. In June 2005, he was invited by the Canadian consulate in New York to showcase Canadian food and wine to an audience of 50 American food and wine experts. |

Dr. MacPhee-Brunet is a dentist and co-owner of the Baseline Dental Centre, a thriving Ottawa clinic that serves a slate of 3,000 patients. She acquired the practice seven years ago from her father, who established it in 1961. Since then, it has doubled in size. She is a graduate of the Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene programs at Algonquin College and the Expanded Duties Hygiene program at George Brown College. In 1985, she entered the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto, where she earned 14 academic awards. She is the 2005 President of the Ottawa Dental Society. |

Prior to joining SAP, he served in a number of senior executive positions in the sales and marketing organizations of Fujitsu Consulting, JDS Uniphase, EDS Systemhouse and Digital Equipment Corporation. He is a graduate of Algonquin College’s Computer Technology Program and holds an MBA from Concordia University. He is a member of Algonquin’s Board of Governors. |

Gerry Davies is owner and operator of Heartwood Custom Furniture. She designs, constructs and finishes custom furniture pieces for an expanding clientele. Davies is a graduate of Algonquin College’s Furniture Technician program. Prior to embarking on a career in the trades, she worked as children’s services coordinator for Lanark County Interval House, a shelter for abused women and children. Before that, she was a female guide at Camp Kandalore, an outdoor education centre near Algonquin Park. She holds a Recreology degree from the University of Ottawa, and an Outdoor and Experiental Education teaching degree from Queen’s University. |
