Awards - Alumni Bursary

The Alumni Association Bursary Award is for enrolled full-time students in financial need who, through volunteerism and active participation in college activities, exemplify dedication and commitment to the College.

General

This bursary will be available to all students of Algonquin College attending a regular one-, two- or three-year post-secondary full-time program.

Criteria

The bursary will be granted based on the following criteria & awarded to:

  • A student in financial need
  • Has been an active participant & has voluntereed in College activities
  • Exemplifies dedication and commitment to the College
  • Recipient must be related to an alumnus of Algonquin College

Method of Application

All applications may be submitted at the end of each term, as soon as final marks are available.

Method of Selection

A selection committee will review the applications and make a decision based on the above-mentioned criteria.


Past Winners

Rosario Castro
2002 Ottawa Recipient

Rosario is a resident of the Vankleek Hill area who is presently enrolled in the Travel and Tourism Program. Rosario is the second member of her family to attend Algonquin having had a sister who is a previous graduate. After a four month trip to Mexico City to visit family and perfect her Spanish. she knew travel was the career she wished to pursue. Upon graduation Rosario would like to work for a cruise line or in the airline industry.

Holly Kruitbosch
2002 Pembroke Recipient

Working at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto is a big deal for any nursing professional, but for Holly Kruitbosch, it's an incredibly exciting opportunity.

The 2002 winner of the annual Alumni Association bursary graduated from the Nursing program at the Pembroke Campus of Algonquin College and quickly gained employment at one of the most respected hospitals in Canada.

Kruitbosch, who grew up near St. Catharines, Ontario and left home at 18 years of age to study in Pembroke, is now working in the Neurology, Endocrinology, Clinical, and Metabolic Genetics Unit at Sick Kid's Hospital.   Kruitbosch says it's like a dream come true, adding:  "I am so excited about helping children and starting my nursing career."
