8. How do I get to Algonquin College - Woodroffe Campus?
With a major transit station directly across the
street, travel to and from the college is easy. A Rides Board, located
across the hall from the Students' Association for carpooling.
OC Transpo Photo ID's are available during the Campus
Orientation week in the gym. During the semester, bus tickets and
monthly passes are available at the Bookstore.

The Students Association looks after Campus Activities,
Club Funding, Courtesy Phones, Emergency Hot Line, Free Faxing, Free
Transparencies, Graduate Services, Health Plan, Housing Referral
Service, Lounges, Study Rooms, Tax Service, Thunder Alley, Used Book
Referrals.

11. Where do I find information regarding housing?
Housing Referral is a service provided by the
Students' Association. It allows you to view accommodations available
in the Ottawa area.

Campus Residence is on campus. The Residence is
an air-conditioned building which, in September 2003, will feature
1050 beds! There are common lounges/games room available to all
Residents, complete with video games, pool table and large screen T.V
as well as study lounges for individual or group study sessions. You
can contact the residence manager for more information at (613)

Student Services (C-226) offers
peer tutoring for just $4.00/hour. They give workshops on study
skills, writing skills and provide academic and personal counselling.
The Beacon (B-186) offers peer support, writing skills and general
information.

The Graduate Referral Service, the Employment

18. What is the
O.A.V.T.?
The Ontario
Association of Veterinary Technicians is the provincial
organization that governs the veterinary technician profession.
O.A.V.T. provides its members with numerous opportunities for
continuing education (C.E.) including a quarterly newsletter, with
C.E. articles, and an annual educational conference. Veterinary
technician students are encouraged to apply for membership with the O.A.V.T. and take advantage of the numerous educational
opportunities they offer.
19. What is an R.V.T.?
When a student has graduated from a Veterinary
Technician program they acquire a veterinary technician diploma. If
the program they have successfully completed is accredited, they can
go on and write a national exam known as the Veterinary Technician
National Exam (VTNE). Upon successful completion of this exam,
veterinary technicians are granted the Registered Veterinary
Technician (R.V.T.) designation. Each veterinary technician must
acquire 20 C.E. credits in a two year period in order to maintain
their R.V.T. status.
20. Does the program focus on
large or small animals?
The program at Algonquin College is designed to
provide students with a comprehensive knowledge of all companion
animals. While its focus is primarily on small animals, the program
also explores large animal medicine through a variety of courses
including Anatomy & Physiology, Applied Animal Behaviour and
Welfare, and Introduction to Livestock Husbandry and Medicine. In
these and other courses, students acquire knowledge on the care and
handling, as well as common diseases and parasites affecting
livestock. The college also has courses dedicated to both laboratory
animal medicine, and the husbandry and care of exotic species
including ferrets, hedgehogs, reptiles and birds.
